LHHS seniors skipped class Thursday-- with the approval of Government teacher Joel Rosenzweig and Assistant Principal Ramona Powers.
Seniors Pose Before Heading to the Poll
Forty-five seniors--armed with their voter registration cards--walked the three blocks to the Audelia Branch library to exercise their right to vote. Everyone agreed it was a worthwhile field trip-- but they didn't necessarily agree on who was worthy of their first vote for president.
The Dallas Morning News made the trek with the seniors and captured the event on videotape.

"I'm proud of these students for wanting to make a difference," said assistant principal Ramona Powers, who accompanied them to the polls. "They are learning an important lesson about citizenship and responsibility."
Many of the seniors, who had turned 18, registered during the League of Women Voters drive at school in September. But some students weren't sure what to do next. Ms. Powers promised LaJarvis Williams she would take him to vote early, "and it turned into this," she said.
The "Vote Walk" attracted the attention of the media. KERA's BJ Austin talked to the students as they walked. Sequoia Love told her she was nervous and excited.
"It's exciting because it's such a big decision, you know," she told Austin.
But the most important question-- who to vote for? John Claybrook said his family might expell him if he didn't vote Republican, while Kara King questioned the GOP's vice presidential candidate.
"(Sarah) Palin has like a couple of months as an Alaskan Governor. I don't think that's enough to qualify her to be a possible leader of the country," King told the KERA reporter.
