Get involved in your school! It's not too late to join Student Council.
Lake Highlands Student Council is a student-led group that helps with community service, school projects, and other events around the school, including Homecoming and Favorites dances, Carter Blood drive, Tailgate, Red Ribbon Week, school elections, meet the troops, school spirit activities, and several others. We donate items to the RISD clothes closet, create teacher appreciation gifts, help with multicultural week, and help with recognizing and honoring students and LHHS personnel.
The officers and committee chairs have been working on ways to help make this a successful school year. This year’s officers are Stanton Morrow – President, Stephanie Bubel – Vice President (Special Events), Josh Marx- Treasurer (Community Service), Michelle Ward-Secretary (DASH/Spirit), and Geoff Dunham- Historian (Pride and Patriotism). For the current representatives and class officers, all of your point opportunities will be available to you through the blackboard website, or you can pick up a sheet in the STUCO room (B-hall across from the cafeteria). If you would like to work-on to Student Council, you can pick up a work-on application in the STUCO room. For the first six weeks sophomores and work-ons only need to earn a few more points than representatives, and they will then become members. Sophomores, since you did not hold rep elections, all of you will be required to work-on to Student Council. (See more work-on information below.) We are all very excited about your interest in being in Student Council for the 2007-2008 school year. I hope that all of you will join Student Council and help make this a wonderful year.
Your President,
Stanton Morrow
Here are a few things that work-ons should know about Student Council:
Who is eligible to work on?
Any sophomore, junior, or senior who has a GPA of at least 75 and a citizenship average of at least a "B" may enter the work-on program.
How do I get points?
Each work-on should stop by the STUCO room during their lunch and sign in for each opportunity that he/she has completed. Make certain you pick up your card and get it punched each time you complete an activity!
What is a Student Council Rep?
A Student Council Rep is someone who has completed the work-on stage of Student Council. After the work-on gets the extra points the first six weeks, then s/he will be invited to a Student Council meeting and become inducted.
