Chicks With Sticks Print E-mail

Chicks with Sticks celebrated Thanksgiving.. by giving of themselves.  They delivered several bags of scarves and blankets to the Genesis Women's Shelter.

Ann Brickell ( Right, Secertary) and Lauren Kjoller(Left, President) show off the scarves and blankets LHHS Chicks with Sticks members and their sponsers have made over the past year.  The women's shelter helps women and children in abusive realationships and enviroments.

The club meets two afternoons a month to knit, visit and encourage new knitters who are just learning to make simple items such as hot pads or neck scarves.

Projects include knitting items that can be donated to a women's shelter such as scarves, hats, hot pads or afghans.  A new project this year will be to knit small blankets called "Snugglers" for cats and dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted.  The snuggler will accompany the animal when it goes to its new home.

Field trips include visits to Passion Knit in Snider Plaza where all members receive a discount and have an opportunity to enjoy knitting in the upstairs loft and shopping for the latest yarns and trim.  The club also learns about weaving yarns on a loom at Brooke Rydman's studio near Greenville Avenue.  Visits to local restaurants add enjoyment to the field trips, too.

Mrs. Iglehart and Mrs. Shultz invite all interested students to join the fun...faculty members and principals have even been known to drop in for refreshments and a little knitting.  Meetings are held in A111 at 4:30 the first and third Wednesday of each month.
